Residential
Services | First Steps
Over
the last several years we noticed that our clients were staying
longer and longer at the Salvation Army, part of this was because
of rising rental rates in Saskatoon and the other part of it
was that our clients were struggling with other barriers that
were standing between them and stable, affordable and safe housing.
To help
our clients find safe and affordable housing, the Salvation
Army Community Services have transitioned staff so that we can
spend more time with them and meet with residents face to face
and ascertain their needs; based on which services at the Salvation
Army Community Services and external agencies are catered.
The
end result is a one on one approach which helps a community
member "get back on their feet" through goal setting and teamwork.
Our First
Steps caseworkers at the Salvation Army Community Services are
experts in helping connect our clients to appropriate housing
and employment options. Our housing specialists assist the residents
in finding low-income subsidized housing or private market housing.
They also perform follow-ups by visiting former residents who
have found housing in the community.
