Family
Services | The Dock
The people
of Saskatoon suprise us again and again with their generosity
of beds, household items, bikes, electronics, books, and too
many other goods to list.
When
someone drops off dry goods like this, we store it on our loading
dock where it is used to help our clients in a variety of ways.
- Setting
up an apartment:
Many of our clients come to us with only the clothes on their
back. After finding employment and then a apartment, many
are in need of basic household items.
- Disaster
and Emergency Relief: In case of a fire or damage to a
house or apartment, the possesions on The Dock are used to
help someone start over.
- Transitioning
out of the half-way
house. While many of our corrections clients have been
able to accumulate basic goods while staying with us, there
is often some things that are over looked. In helping them
transition smoothly back into society, goods are provided.
In
all cases the goods are provided at no charge.
Other
uses for goods given to the Centre include improving the quality
of life for our clients and once the Dock is overflowing (which
happens a couple times a year), we hold a giant community garage
sale in our north parking lot where good are sold a very low
price and the proceeds go to support programming and activities
for our clients who live in the Centre.
Donations
can be dropped off at the Family Services entrance from 8:30
a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and at the Men's Residence entrance after
4:30 p.m.
